Job Overview
Sirona Care & Health is recruiting a Band 7 Senior Urgent Care Practitioner to join the team at South Bristol Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC).
The service provides same-day urgent care for patients presenting with minor injuries and illnesses and operates from 8:00am to 8:00pm, seven days a week.
The successful candidate will work as an experienced autonomous practitioner, undertaking comprehensive patient assessment, management and appropriate referral.
The role is suitable for an Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP), Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP), Specialist Paramedic or Extended Scope Physiotherapist with relevant urgent or emergency care experience.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Urgent Care Practitioner will:
- Provide autonomous, patient-centred care.
- Assess patients and develop appropriate shared care plans.
- Make appropriate referrals based on clinical assessment.
- Conduct face-to-face, telephone and video consultations.
- Use advanced clinical examination skills to support diagnostic reasoning.
- Manage patient presentations using Patient Group Directions or Independent Prescribing where appropriate.
- Take responsibility for shift leadership and department coordination.
- Prioritise workloads according to available resources.
- Support clinical and non-clinical colleagues.
- Help maintain patient and staff safety.
- Carry out initial assessment and prioritisation of patients.
- Provide clinical expertise and advice to colleagues and junior practitioners.
- Mentor junior colleagues and healthcare students.
- Support clinical governance and service improvement.
- Participate in audits and project work.
- Deliver safe and effective care using relevant professional knowledge and experience.

Essential Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- Current professional registration with the NMC or HCPC.
- A relevant undergraduate qualification.
- A postgraduate qualification in Urgent or Emergency Practice, or a similar discipline.
Desirable Qualifications
The following would be advantageous:
- Independent Prescribing qualification.
- Mentorship or Supporting Students in Practice qualification.
Essential Experience
Applicants should have:
- Significant experience working in an urgent or emergency healthcare setting, including primary care.
- Experience working autonomously in an urgent or emergency healthcare environment.
- Experience in clinical leadership.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of minor injuries and illnesses.
- Experience with autonomous patient management.
- Ability to manage complex patients and situations.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
Desirable Experience and Skills
Additional experience that may be beneficial includes:
- Up-to-date IRMER qualification.
- Ability to interpret X-ray films.
- Experience or qualification in remote clinical assessment.
- Experience using Patient Group Directions where not Independent Prescribing qualified.
- Experience in advanced wound care.
- Experience with limb or joint reduction and immobilisation.
