About the Role

The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) is recruiting a BI Analyst to join its Customer business area in Bedford.

The role will work closely with the Debt Team and wider organisation, using data and business intelligence to support evidence-based decision-making and improve the effectiveness of debt advice services.

You will report to the Continuous Improvement Manager and will be responsible for turning data into useful insights, maintaining reporting tools and helping colleagues understand what the data is showing.

The role offers a £55,000 salary, permanent employment and hybrid working, with the MaPS headquarters in Bedford serving as the contractual place of work.

Key Responsibilities

As a BI Analyst, your responsibilities will include:

• Analysing existing systems and operational procedures.
• Understanding the business needs and objectives of the Debt Team and wider organisation.
• Obtaining relevant data from MaPS, suppliers and external stakeholders.
• Cleaning, modelling, transforming and analysing data.
• Investigating data to understand both what it shows and why patterns or issues occur.
• Reviewing data collection processes and assessing the quality of stored information.
• Building, maintaining and improving dashboards and reports using tools such as Microsoft Power BI.
• Applying company policies and legal requirements relating to data collection and security.
• Using statistical methods and models to identify challenges and opportunities.
• Presenting analysis and insights through clear and engaging visualisations.
• Explaining data findings and recommendations to colleagues, including senior management.
• Monitoring the progress and impact of implemented changes through key performance indicators.

Requirements and Experience

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:

• At least 2 years’ experience working in a statistical or analytical role.
• A background or education in mathematics, statistics or English is beneficial.
• A BI/Data Analyst certification or equivalent experience.
• Power BI certification or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with SQL and databases.
• Experience working with Microsoft Azure databases; Microsoft Fabric experience is beneficial.
• Experience using statistical and mathematical models.
• Strong knowledge of databases and spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
• The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• The ability to translate business requirements for technical teams and explain technical information to business colleagues.
• Strong presentation skills and the ability to make complex information easy to understand.
• Excellent data visualisation skills, including experience with tools such as Power BI or Tableau.

Working Arrangement

MaPS operates a hybrid working approach.
