A permanent CAMHS Mental Health Practitioner opportunity is available with Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) in Manchester. The role is suitable for registered mental health nurses, social workers, psychologists and eligible Allied Health Professionals with current UK professional registration.

About the Role
The CAMHS Mental Health Practitioner will work as an autonomous practitioner within a multidisciplinary team, providing high-quality mental health care to children and young people.
The role involves assessing mental health needs, managing risk, developing formulations and care plans, delivering evidence-based interventions and working closely with families, carers and other professionals.
Regular supervision and support will be provided to help the successful candidate continue developing their clinical skills.
The role may require travel to other MFT locations and within the local community.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Manage a defined clinical caseload and maintain high professional standards.
- Assess children and young people, including mental health and risk assessments.
- Gather information from children, young people, families, carers and relevant agencies.
- Develop clinical formulations and intervention plans with children, young people and their families.
- Deliver therapeutic and evidence-based interventions in line with relevant NICE guidance.
- Coordinate and regularly review assessments, treatment and risk-management plans.
- Monitor the effectiveness of clinical interventions using Routine Outcome Measures.
- Ensure the views and experiences of children, young people and families are incorporated into assessment and treatment.
- Liaise with other professionals and agencies involved in the care of children and young people.
- Make appropriate referrals and support effective discharge planning.
- Maintain accurate written and electronic clinical records.
Requirements / Person Specification
Applicants must have current UK professional registration/accreditation with an appropriate professional body, such as the NMC, HCPC, Social Work England, UKCP or BACP.
A recognised professional qualification is also required. Relevant backgrounds may include:
- Registered Nursing, such as RMN/RSCN or RNMH.
- Social Work, such as CQSW/DipSW.
- Occupational Therapy or another relevant accredited qualification.
Essential Experience
Applicants should have:
- Proven experience working effectively with people experiencing mental health difficulties.
- Experience assessing and managing risk, including safeguarding.
- Experience developing and delivering evidence-based assessments, formulations and care plans.
- Experience working with relevant agencies and professional groups.
- Experience independently managing a clinical caseload.
- Experience mentoring or supervising others.
- Experience working within clinical governance principles.
- Experience following organisational policies and procedures.
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience working within Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
- Experience providing mental health interventions to children, young people and their families.
- Community mental health experience.
- Qualifications in psychological therapies such as CBT, SFT or IPT.
- Mentorship qualification such as ENB998 or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidates should have:
- Up-to-date knowledge of child mental health and relevant legislation.
- An understanding of evidence-based practice and how it informs clinical work.
- The ability to assess, formulate and manage care appropriately.
- The ability to support timely and appropriate discharge.
- Experience using assessment tools and outcome measures.
- The ability to organise their own time and diary effectively.
- Flexibility and creativity when working within a clinical environment.
- The ability to maintain accurate clinical records.
IT competence and knowledge of the research process are desirable.
