Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (HPFT) is recruiting a Social Worker to join its Children and Young People’s Mental Health Service (CYPMHS) South Hertfordshire.
This is a permanent, full-time Band 6 opportunity for a qualified Social Worker with relevant experience of working with children, young people and families, particularly within mental health or related services.
The successful applicant will contribute to specialist social work provision within a multidisciplinary team, carrying out assessments, coordinating care, delivering evidence-based interventions, managing risk and supporting safeguarding.
About the Role
The Social Worker will play an important role in supporting children, young people and their families experiencing mental health difficulties, neurodevelopmental conditions and associated risks.
The position combines clinical social work, care coordination, safeguarding, consultation and multidisciplinary working. You will work across clinic-based and community outreach settings and contribute to the continued development of social work practice within the service.
HPFT provides health and social care services across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex and Norfolk. The Trust has more than 4,500 staff and has been rated Outstanding overall by the Care Quality Commission.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in referral screening, allocation and assessment processes.
- Complete comprehensive and specialist assessments of children, young people and families.
- Develop and deliver evidence-based interventions using appropriate theoretical and therapeutic approaches.
- Coordinate caseloads and provide integrated packages of care.
- Manage clinical and social risks and contribute to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- Provide person-centred support through clinic-based and community outreach services.
- Contribute specialist social work input to multidisciplinary meetings and case discussions.
- Chair and participate in appropriate multidisciplinary meetings.
- Provide consultation, advice and formulation-based guidance to colleagues and partner agencies.
- Support the development of social work practice within the service.
- Provide supervision, practice education, teaching and professional support where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with HPFT and external partner organisations.
- Contribute to service development and improvement activities.
- Maintain professional competence through supervision, appraisal and continuing professional development.
Requirements / Person Specification
Applicants must have a relevant professional qualification and current Social Work England registration.
Essential requirements include:
- Qualification in Social Work with valid Social Work England registration.
- Relevant additional training or qualifications.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Post-qualification experience in a CYPMHS team or related setting, or substantial relevant experience before qualification.
- Experience working with moderate to severe mental health problems involving children and adolescents.
- Knowledge of clinical interventions involving children, young people, carers and families.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and across agencies.
- Knowledge of child development and child and adolescent mental health.
- Understanding of theoretical approaches, particularly trauma and attachment.
- Ability to provide supervision, appraisal, practice education, teaching and staff support.
- Knowledge of current developments in mental health or learning disability services.
- Ability to provide professional consultation to different groups.
- Understanding of relevant legislation affecting clinical practice with children and adolescents.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively.
- Strong written and verbal presentation skills.
- Ability to chair meetings effectively.
- Ability to work therapeutically with young people and families.
- Good problem-solving and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures.
Experience of clinical audit, evaluative research or service quality monitoring would be desirable.
