About the Role
As a Community Library Assistant, you will help provide an excellent experience for library customers and volunteers while supporting the day-to-day operation of the service.
You will work independently on computerised counter routines and administrative duties, while also assisting the Library Manager and working alongside volunteers to deliver a friendly, community-focused service.
Although the main base is Wilton Library, the role also requires regular work at Salisbury Library.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include:
- Supporting customers and providing a friendly, positive library service.
- Carrying out computerised counter routines.
- Completing administrative tasks required for the daily running of the library.
- Supporting the Library Manager with library operations.
- Working alongside and supporting library volunteers.
- Helping create a warm and welcoming environment for the local community.
- Encouraging and promoting a love of reading for pleasure.
- Using IT systems confidently as part of everyday library operations.
Requirements / Person Specification
Applicants should have:
- At least 5 GCSEs, including English and Maths at grades A–C, or equivalent qualifications.
- Previous customer service experience, which is essential.
- Confidence using IT.
- A positive and friendly approach to working with customers and volunteers.
- An interest in books, reading and community services.
Previous library experience is not required. Wiltshire Council provides comprehensive training covering the different aspects of library operations.

Working Pattern
The role is based primarily at Wilton Library but includes regular work at Salisbury Library.

- Thursday: 9:30am–1:30pm — Wilton
