Cafcass is recruiting a Pensions, Benefits and Payroll Officer to join its Payroll and Benefits team. The role supports the accurate and timely administration of employee pensions, benefits and payroll processes across the organisation.

About the Role
As a Pensions, Benefits and Payroll Officer, you will work with the Payroll and Benefits team and wider HR function to support the administration of Cafcass’ employee reward and benefits arrangements.
Reporting to the Payroll and Benefits Manager and working closely with the Senior Pensions and Benefits Officer, you will help ensure monthly pension, benefits and payroll processes are completed accurately and on time.
The role will also involve working with HR Transactions and Resourcing teams on new starters, leavers and contractual changes that affect employees’ total reward packages.
Key Responsibilities
- Process routine pension changes and notifications through the West Yorkshire Pension Fund online portal.
- Maintain accurate pay information and monthly pension membership data.
- Respond to ad hoc requests for pension benefit estimates.
- Support monthly pension processing, including auto-enrolment activity.
- Help resolve routine pension queries and escalate more complex matters when necessary.
- Administer employee benefits, including health cash plans, Additional Voluntary Contributions and other salary-sacrifice or payroll benefits.
- Respond to routine payroll, pension and benefits enquiries from employees and HR teams.
- Provide assistance and cover for routine payroll inputting when required.
- Maintain accurate employee records, databases and electronic filing systems.
- Identify opportunities to improve and streamline processes.
- Assist with reporting, year-end activities, statistical requirements, audits and process reviews.
- Maintain effective working relationships with external providers, including the West Yorkshire Pension Fund.
- Handle sensitive employee, personal and financial information in accordance with data protection and Cafcass information assurance requirements.
Requirements / Person Specification
Applicants should be organised, accurate and comfortable handling confidential information. You should also be able to provide a professional and helpful service while working effectively as part of a team.
The role requires:
- Experience of employee benefits administration within a large organisation.
- Experience using computerised HR or payroll systems.
- Experience of pensions administration, ideally involving a Local Government Pension Scheme or similar public-sector pension fund.
- Working knowledge of payroll and pensions processes and relevant legislation.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate data-entry skills.
- Good numerical ability, including the ability to carry out manual payroll calculations where required.
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Confidence using IT systems and databases.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to deal tactfully and sensitively with colleagues.
- Good organisation and prioritisation skills when managing competing tasks.
- The ability to work independently and use initiative within agreed procedures.

Salary & Benefits
The salary is £29,883 – £31,678 pro rata for the Band 4 position.

Working Pattern
This is a 0.5 FTE position working 18.7 hours per week.
Cafcass supports flexible and hybrid working, with colleagues generally combining office-based and home working. The role is available from offices in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham or Coventry.
