Job Overview

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is recruiting a Digital Programme Manager to join its Digital Department on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

The successful candidate will lead and manage the implementation of major digital programmes and projects across the Trust, ensuring delivery against agreed plans, timescales and constraints.

The role will provide professional programme and project management support for the delivery of applications, systems and technology solutions that deliver benefits for patients and the Trust.

Provisional interviews are scheduled to take place on 3 and 4 November 2026.

Main Responsibilities

The Digital Programme Manager will:

  • Lead and manage the successful implementation of major IT and digital programmes and projects.
  • Manage programmes that can run for more than six months and affect more than 1,500 Trust staff.
  • Build and manage large multifunctional teams of technical and non-technical staff, often involving 30–50 project staff.
  • Set programme delivery strategies and ensure projects align with strategic objectives.
  • Work with Digital Nurse Specialists to identify and deliver programme benefits.
  • Manage dependencies and interfaces between projects.
  • Provide professional programme and project management across the Trust.
  • Apply expert digital knowledge and operational experience to the deployment of digital solutions.
  • Produce and maintain programme and project documentation, including policies and procedures.
  • Participate in system procurement, including procurement documentation and supplier evaluations.
  • Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders, Programme Boards and Project Boards.
  • Report programme performance, communicate complex issues and negotiate desired outcomes.
  • Support operational change resulting from the introduction of new digital systems.
  • Conduct digital investigations and impact assessments involving supplier products and implementation plans.
  • Work with other NHS Trusts and health organisations where digital services support patient care across multiple locations and agencies.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants should have:

  • A Master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in a relevant subject, or equivalent professional experience.
  • PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent experience.

Desirable Qualifications

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Managing Successful Programmes (MSP) qualification.
  • Digital-related qualifications.
  • Change management training.
  • Facilitation training.

Essential Experience

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Successful delivery of high-profile programmes and projects.
  • Experience leading large projects.
  • Experience managing large teams.
  • Extensive project management experience.
  • Experience implementing organisational change.

Experience of implementing a PAS or similar clinical digital system, NHS senior-level experience and cross-organisational working are desirable.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

Applicants should have:

  • A thorough understanding of digital issues and their application within the NHS.
  • Experience managing and delivering large-scale digital projects.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
  • The ability to motivate teams and lead change.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • The ability to interpret and present complex and contentious information.
  • The ability to influence staff at all levels.
  • The ability to balance strategic priorities with attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • The ability to work effectively across teams, departments and organisations in a complex environment.
