Key Responsibilities

As a Healthcare Assistant, you will:

  • Perform venepuncture (phlebotomy)
  • Carry out Electrocardiograms (ECGs)
  • Fit and monitor 24-hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitors (ABPM)
  • Conduct NHS Health Checks
  • Measure blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, BMI, height, weight and temperature
  • Carry out urinalysis and point-of-care testing
  • Support wound care and dressings
  • Assist with chronic disease monitoring
  • Complete Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic (CRM) assessments
  • Support hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease clinics
  • Deliver lifestyle advice on smoking cessation, healthy eating, exercise and weight management
  • Participate in patient recalls and preventative healthcare programmes
  • Maintain accurate electronic patient records
  • Support quality improvement projects and NHS performance targets
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team

Essential Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • Care Certificate (or equivalent)
  • Competency in phlebotomy
  • NHS Health Checks training
  • Experience performing ECGs
  • Experience fitting ABPM devices
  • Previous experience in a GP Practice or Primary Care setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable Skills

The following are advantageous:

  • Experience with Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic (CRM) assessments
  • Experience carrying out Carers Health Checks
  • Mental Health physical health review experience
  • Knowledge of SystmOne clinical software
