About the Role
Birmingham Children’s Trust is recruiting a Senior Residential Child Care Officer to join the team at Warwick House, a specialist long-stay residential home supporting children with learning disabilities, autism, complex health conditions and challenging behaviour.
The role involves providing high-quality, personalised care in a nurturing environment, helping children develop confidence, independence and everyday life skills.
The residential service operates 24 hours a day, so successful applicants will be expected to work shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individual care plans based on each child’s needs and preferences.
- Provide a safe, supportive and nurturing environment.
- Use communication and visual aids to help children express their wishes and feelings.
- Work closely with parents, schools, social workers and other professionals.
- Support children with everyday activities including food preparation, personal hygiene and self-care.
- Encourage children to develop greater independence.
- Maintain communication with school staff to support continuity and development.
- Organise activities that are appropriate to the individual needs of the children.
About You
Applicants should have experience working with children, particularly those with learning disabilities, autism, complex health conditions or challenging behaviour.
The Trust is looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
- Strong organisation and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication skills and experience using communication aids.
- A compassionate, patient and caring approach.
- A commitment to delivering high-quality care.
- The ability to work effectively with colleagues, professionals and other stakeholders.
- Relevant childcare qualifications are desirable.
