About the Role
The successful candidate will work alongside Assistant Technical Officers and other dispensary staff to provide essential pharmacy support.
The position includes assisting with the dispensing of medicines for inpatients and discharge, supporting reception and telephone duties, managing dispensary stock and helping ensure pharmacy procedures are followed accurately.
The role also involves handling controlled medicines and using the controlled drug Omnicell cabinet, with an understanding of relevant procedures and legal requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with reception and telephone duties within the dispensary.
- Respond to and help resolve queries from doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
- Dispense inpatient and discharge medicines accurately.
- Dispense controlled drugs using the controlled drug Omnicell cabinet.
- Follow procedures for returning and discarding medicines.
- Order, monitor and maintain dispensary appliances and stock.
- Carry out regular dispensary stock checks.
- Rotate stock to minimise stock loss.
- Complete Omnicell cabinet counts for ward stock and departments.
- Follow relevant procedures, policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Support the wider dispensary team in delivering an effective pharmacy service.
Requirements / Person Specification
Essential skills:
- Ability to work accurately according to established procedures and SOPs.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to dispense medicines accurately, including basic prescription calculations.
- Ability to organise and manage your own workload.
Essential experience:
- Previous experience working in a pharmacy.
Desirable experience:
- Previous experience in stock control.
Essential qualifications:
- Maths, English or Science at GCSE level A–C or equivalent.
- NVQ/QCF Level 2.
Desirable qualifications:
- BTEC Science or A-level Sciences.
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 in appropriate units.
Salary & Benefits
The position offers a Band 2 salary of £31,066 per year, inclusive of HCAs and paid pro rata for the part-time working arrangement.
The post is permanent and comes within the NHS Agenda for Change pay structure.
