About the role
The Welsh Government is looking for an Associate Content Designer to join its Statistics and Research Web Publishing Team within Knowledge and Analytical Services.
The team manages the quality of digital content published on GOV.WALES and other digital channels. The successful candidate will support two content designers and contribute to clear digital communication, content quality and user experience.
This is an entry-level trainee position working under supervision. You will need aptitude, potential and an understanding of content design. The role includes basic standard checks and copy editing.
You do not need knowledge of statistical or research methods or be an expert with numbers. You will work with subject matter experts to make complex information and processes easier for users to understand.
What you will do
The role involves:
- Maintaining publishing schedules across different systems and creating announcements to deadlines.
- Using content management systems to publish content supplied by statisticians and researchers.
- Reviewing publications to ensure they follow the GOV.WALES style guide, contain no errors and meet accessibility standards.
- Reviewing and updating content across reports, StatsWales datasets, blog posts, PowerBI dashboards, social media and newsletters.
- Using tools such as Canva to create text-based social media posts.
- Monitoring and responding to queries through three shared mailboxes and X.
- Understanding government accessibility requirements and helping ensure content works with common assistive technologies.
- Developing working relationships across Welsh Government and the wider Digital Team.
- Contributing to guidance on the publishing process.
- Participating in the GOV.WALES content community and contributing to the development of standards.

Training and development
As an entry-level Associate Content Designer, you will work under supervision while developing your skills and experience.
The role maps to the Associate Content Designer level of the DDaT Capability Framework. You will gain experience in areas including content management, copy editing, accessibility, digital publishing and user-focused content design.

Salary
The salary is £27,302 to £29,291.
The Welsh Government states that the starting salary of £27,302 is non-negotiable for the successful candidate.
