About the Role

The Housing Ombudsman Service is recruiting a People Advisor to join its People Operations team on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

The successful candidate will provide practical HR advice, guidance and support to managers and employees across the organisation. Working alongside the People Manager and Business Partners, the postholder will contribute to employee relations, HR policies and procedures, people systems and key organisational projects.

This opportunity is suited to candidates with previous HR or people-team experience who can provide sound advice on employment matters and help resolve sensitive workplace issues.

Key Responsibilities

The People Advisor will be responsible for:

  • Advising and coaching managers on HR policies, procedures and employment legislation.
  • Supporting the People team during staff absences and periods of increased demand.
  • Helping manage the People team’s shared inbox and responding to employee enquiries accurately and promptly.
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of people policies and guidance.
  • Contributing to learning activities associated with HR policies and procedures.
  • Advising managers on sensitive employee relations matters to encourage early resolution.
  • Supporting the delivery of HR projects and the effective operation of people systems.
  • Building productive working relationships with managers, employees and colleagues across the People team.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should have the following qualifications and experience:

  • CIPD Level 5 qualification or currently working towards it.
  • Previous experience working within a People or HR team.
  • Experience providing HR advice and guidance to managers and employees.
  • Ability to generate, analyse and explain data and reports.
  • A good practical understanding of HR policies and processes, including employment contracts, maternity and paternity arrangements, flexible working, disciplinary procedures and grievances.

This is a full-time, homeworking position that can be performed remotely anywhere in the UK.
