About the Role
This fixed-term role is part of the Optimising Pathways Improvement Programme (OPIP), which aims to transform obesity care across Wales.
The programme includes MyPathCymru, a nationally coordinated and digitally enabled pathway designed to improve access to evidence-based weight management support, reduce health inequalities and contribute to the development of Wales’ first national obesity outcomes dataset.
As a Data Analyst, you will work as a core member of the evaluation team, helping to develop and implement analytical approaches and generate insights from routine service data, national datasets and linked data sources.

Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Develop and maintain complex datasets.
- Undertake data validation and quality assurance.
- Ensure compliance with information governance requirements.
- Conduct robust quantitative analyses using reproducible approaches.
- Produce dashboards and analytical reports.
- Apply descriptive, comparative and longitudinal analytical methods.
- Analyse complex health, service and population datasets.
- Generate evidence on effectiveness, efficiency and equity.
- Support policy, service delivery and commissioning decisions.
- Work with Health Boards and Digital Health and Care Wales.
- Collaborate with researchers and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to evaluation reports and presentations.
- Support publications and wider dissemination activities.
Essential Qualifications and Knowledge
Applicants should have:
- A degree in a numerate subject, equivalent qualification, or equivalent level of knowledge and skills.
- Specialist knowledge and experience of statistical and analytical techniques.
Desirable Qualifications
It would be advantageous to have:
- Knowledge or interest in Data Science techniques.
- A Master’s degree in a numerate subject or equivalent qualification.
- Equivalent knowledge and skills gained through relevant professional experience.
Essential Experience
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Experience performing complex analytical tasks.
- Experience creating analytical outputs for use by others.
- Experience communicating complex information to non-technical audiences.
Desirable Experience
Additional experience includes:
- Report writing.
- Presentation skills.
- Experience working with complex population-health datasets.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Knowledge of ICD10, OPCS, Read codes or SNOMED CT.
Technical Skills
Applicants should have:
- Advanced IT skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with specialist analytical software.
- Knowledge and experience of SQL, R Studio or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience producing complex analyses of public health or related data.
- Understanding of relevant public health policies and principles.
- Awareness of current and ongoing public health issues.
Communication and Teamwork
