About the Role
The National Centre for AI in Policing has been established through government investment to accelerate the safe, ethical, and effective use of artificial intelligence throughout policing in England and Wales.
As Director of Police AI, you will provide national leadership for this strategic programme, working with senior police leaders, government ministers, technology experts, academics, and industry partners to develop AI solutions that improve operational policing while maintaining public confidence.
The position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the College of Policing and works closely with the Home Office and policing leaders across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the National Centre for AI in Policing.
- Develop and deliver the national AI strategy for policing.
- Build and lead a high-performing multidisciplinary team.
- Oversee AI innovation, governance, assurance, and adoption.
- Collaborate with Chief Constables, Ministers, Police and Crime Commissioners, and international partners.
- Promote ethical, transparent, and responsible AI implementation.
- Develop partnerships with universities, industry, and research organisations.
- Manage strategic programmes delivering national policing improvements.
- Represent UK policing on AI at national and international level.
Essential Knowledge and Experience
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Extensive senior leadership experience in AI, digital transformation, advanced technology, policing, government, academia, or industry.
- Strong understanding of responsible AI, ethics, governance, and public accountability.
- Experience leading complex national programmes.
- Ability to influence senior government officials and policing leaders.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and strategic planning experience.
- Experience managing innovation, partnerships, and organisational transformation.
