About the Role
Herefordshire Council is recruiting Reporting and Data Analysts to provide specialist analytical support for Children’s Social Care and wider Children and Young People’s Services.
The role sits within the council’s Corporate Performance and Intelligence function and offers the opportunity to use data, reporting and analysis to support better services and outcomes for children, young people and families.
Two positions are available. One post is Families First funded and will have a particular focus on supporting the Children and Young People’s data warehouse rebuild project following significant changes to the case management system. The second post will have a mixed analytical workload.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Develop and maintain reports, dashboards and performance products using SQL, Power BI and other analytical tools.
- Deliver statutory reporting requirements, including Children’s Social Care returns and regulatory information.
- Analyse trends, demand and performance to support informed decision-making.
- Support forecasting and modelling to identify future service pressures and opportunities.
- Ensure data quality, integrity and compliance across reporting systems.
- Support the rebuilding and development of the Children’s Social Care data warehouse.
- Help design data structures, reporting solutions and intelligence products.
- Work with system, service and data stakeholders to define reporting requirements, data models and business rules.
- Present complex information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Work collaboratively across the council to support performance, intelligence and service improvement.
Essential Skills and Experience
Applicants should have:
- Experience producing analytical reports and dashboards.
- Strong SQL skills, including data extraction, transformation and validation.
- Experience with Power BI and data visualisation tools.
- The ability to analyse large and complex datasets and identify meaningful insights.
- Strong communication skills, particularly when explaining complex information to non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of data quality, governance and assurance principles.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Experience working with stakeholders at different levels.
Desirable Experience
Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:
- Children’s Social Care, local government or public services.
- Statutory children’s data returns such as CIN, CLA or SSDA903.
- Python or R for automation, statistical analysis or forecasting.
- Data warehouses and semantic models.
- Mosaic or similar social care case management systems.
- DevOps, version control and reporting lifecycle management.
- Enterprise reporting solutions and data modelling.
- Data warehouse transformation or rebuild projects.
