About the Product Manager Role
Cambridge University Press & Assessment is seeking a strategically minded, creative and commercially aware Product Manager, Support Propositions to lead support proposition development for the initial tranches of VQ 16–19 reform.
The successful candidate will help define and develop market-leading support for teachers, centres and learners during a critical period of qualification change.
You will use customer insight, market evidence and product management expertise to develop, test and improve support propositions for priority vocational qualifications.
The role will also contribute to wider Vocational Qualification (VQ) and General Qualification (GQ) synergies, helping strengthen and connect support approaches across qualification types.
Key Responsibilities
As Product Manager, you will:
- Lead the support proposition strategy for the initial tranches of VQ 16–19 reform.
- Ensure support propositions are compelling, evidence-informed and aligned with customer needs.
- Define what market-leading support should look like during significant qualification change.
- Help OCR respond to customer needs with pace, clarity and confidence.
- Use customer insight and market research to identify opportunities and validate solutions.
- Apply product management techniques to shape, test and iterate support propositions.
- Develop support offers for priority vocational qualifications.
- Work closely with qualification, insight, delivery, digital, sales, marketing and partnership teams.
- Coordinate cross-functional colleagues to create integrated support propositions.
- Ensure products and services are delivered within agreed budgets, schedules and quality expectations.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and market differentiation.
- Help build customer confidence and competitive advantage through qualification reform.
- Accelerate opportunities for VQ/GQ collaboration and shared support approaches.
- Monitor customer feedback, market developments, emerging trends and competitor activity.
- Ensure support propositions remain relevant, timely and strategically aligned.
- Provide leadership and strategic direction throughout the product development process.
About You
The ideal candidate will have considerable leadership experience in product management, publishing or education and a strong record of developing strategy and delivering successful outcomes.
You should have:
- Strong knowledge of the UK education system.
- Ideally, experience with vocational qualifications or 16–19 education.
- Knowledge of curriculum development, teaching, learning or assessment practices.
- Experience in product management, product development or value proposition development.
- Experience developing education resources, support services or training products.
- Strong market research and analytical skills.
- Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- A proven ability to understand customer needs and validate solutions.
- Understanding of commercial drivers within an education business.
- Experience developing commercially viable products or services.
- Ability to work within budget, scheduling and governance requirements.
- Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to influence colleagues and stakeholders at different levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong presentation and influencing abilities.
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Hybrid Working
This is a hybrid role based in Cambridge or Coventry.
The successful candidate will typically spend 40–60% of their working time collaborating and connecting face-to-face at their dedicated location.
